Rabbit with rabbit stew

Posted in Eating, thumba on August 28th, 2010 by admin – Be the first to comment

a while back we got a frozen rabbit. i had never had rabbit so Joe thought he’d make it for me sometime..a few months later we finally did it.

so we cut the guy down, and cooked the little bugger up…then made some stew with some of the meat and rabbit belly (think about it kinda like bunny bacon)

the end result – well, it was good. not great. and i hate to do it, but kinda like chicken.  nothing super special about the fact that it was a bunny, and a lot more effort than a chicken would have been.  I think i’m gonna have to try it again.

BBQ sliders

mmm…we really like making sliders, technically i guess they aren’t sliders, i dont actually steam them – more like griddled, so i guess we can call them mini burgers, but you get the point…and discovered that the vinegar/mustard bbq sauce i made for the pulled pork (so glad i worked out that recipe and actually remembered to write it down!!) works really well on them. of course, the grilled onions, homemade pickles, and maui onion chips were nice additions :)

Pollo a la Brasa

Posted in Eating, thumba on August 28th, 2010 by admin – Be the first to comment

time to once again play a little catch up.

Pollo a la Brasa

so glad we stumbled upon this place (with a little help from yelp of course)…
located at Western and 8th on a tiny little triangle in the intersection is a great little braised chicken place. They don’t really have much of anything else – and anything else we’ve tried there hasn’t really been that great, but the chicken…moist, seasoned, piled high. it’s just really so good. The place itself is a little, okay, a lot small, not exactly prestine, but its just the kinda place where you go for a reason – the chicken – not for ambiance.

not a minute to spare

warning: this post is a small montage of randoms – deal

* had another crazy dream. This time i was dressed as alice in wonderland, running around backstage with a friend dressed as captain hook at an old theater (it was playing Disney’s Beauty and the Beast), hiding from the Phantom of the Opera.

*family from Minnesota coming in tomorrow, then Georgia on Thursday. Things are gonna be nuts in the Swartz house!! But we are planning a few good meals, and, as always, a few blind taste tests. I know we’re atleast gonna be tasting plain (as in just salt) flavored potato chips and easily accessible store bought chocolate chip cookies. Results to be posted.

*vacation coming soon!!!! ahhhh! super excited to have a week away from the madness, especially so soon after the fam visits. Don’t get me wrong, it’s always fun, but you know how stressful/busy/crazy things get when these things happen. So we’re currently building my vacation spreadsheet, collecting information, gathering confirmation numbers, printing maps, entering data into google earth for transference into the GPS, etc etc etc. All to just lay by the beach and have some drinks. :)

sleepy

This post was actually from almost a month ago..i just never hit publish. here we go.

So I happen to hit snooze once this morning and proceeded to have a crazy action/adventure/suspense/thriller/time travel dream. I wish I could remember it all – I’d write a script. But no…instead its just little flashes. I know it started in a parking lot of an airport. I remember a woman in a green dress coming to pick someone up. (isn’t it funny how there are tiny details that can be remembered, but sequence and storyline get all muffled up). I was at a cabin a friend used to own…and a group of us where there. A “threatening person” (can’t remember why she was threatening/released from a mental institution/prisoner/evil spirit/etc) had escaped. She was middle aged, dirty blonde, tall, in royal blue. She was blending in. I don’t remember what it was, but there was something I didn’t do that took me off of her hit list. Not relevant to the plot (that I can recall) i picked up a tarnished hand bell, it was oddly shaped, and placed it in front of a framed picture of the owner of the cabin. I remember climbing a slated wall of the cabin that was accessible to the outside public area to get out of her way/killing zone, but where i was climbing was actually under the stairs so i had to swing myself around, but I don’t think i ever actually got to that point. And john lithgow was there, but younger…i think he was leading the trip or was an advisor for my group or something.
Somehow I managed to jump on her back (i wasn’t threatened due to my “immunity”) and we were somehow in an airport. I used to be friends with one of the security guards there who proceeded to try to detain her while there was mass hysteria to escape the area…i ran through the security/metal detectors and made my way to the parking lot (here’s where it picks up again from the beginning of the dream) I remembered this, realizing that there was a time lapse. i remember thinking I had to call my parents because they would for sure have heard about the craziness at the airport. Never was i on a plane, but somehow i had traveled internationally. In any-case…Jessica Simpson was in the parking lot at a desk. I went to her and told her that if she wanted to go to the State Fair I’d go with her…she was gonna call me. Then John Lithgow and I got in a black explorer, but the brakes werent working properly…i was coasting down a hill slamming on the breaks and blowing through stop signs. He guided me to an old town looking shopping area. He was gonna buy something to fix our breaks at a store, but the store was a hospital/vet…It looked like a family lived there. There were beds in every room with comforters. Someone was in our room in the corner, with a hippo. John Lithgow was looking at a dvd rack…he picked up “the girl next door” put it back, then picked a movie called “41 days” – now, I don’t think this actually exists, but you know how dreams can be…I think i started thinking about the movie too much at that point – then realized i was dreaming, which always wakes me up. grrrr…how does it all end?

ugh – my back

Posted in thumba on June 3rd, 2010 by admin – 1 Comment

On day 3 of strange lower back pain.  I didn’t even do anything to prompt it this time; day was going fine, sat on a stool, sudden back pain. This time it feels like nerve pain, not sore muscles…and once in a while i can feel it in my leg. Not good. Then it goes away for a little while. But I know its there, lurking, waiting to annoy me. Ugh. This whole getting old thing is not for me!!

Bridge cats – Part II

Posted in News/Culture, On the Road Again (Travels), thumba on May 28th, 2010 by admin – 4 Comments

so March 22 I posted about my bridge cats. whoa. I sound like a crazy cat lady if you don’t know what I’m talking about. In any case. They came back!!! I was so stoked when i noticed them that I had to take another picture. Thank goodness this one came out a bit better

Sadly – they were once again promptly removed.  I’m not a cat person, but these cats always make me smile on my way to work!!
