surgery

Posted in thumba on August 18th, 2009 by admin – Be the first to comment

I have to have hand surgery…removing a “mass” from my ligament.  Normally this would be an in and out procedure. Put in a needle. Suck out the goo. Remove the sack. Well, lucky me, had to have a not so common one which is attached to my middle finger ligament. Actual surgery has to happen. cut my ligament. sew it back together..two weeks off of work. atleast it’s before i turn 30!!!

Steak and potato lunch

Steak and potato lunch

Steak and potatoes for lunch again.  The vinegar reduction had to be overlooked this time though, not enough vinegar to reduce.  Pan fried potatoes with sour cream and green onion slivers.  Fried onions top the grilled rib eye.  yum!!!

Beef Jerky

Posted in Eating, thumba on August 10th, 2009 by admin – Be the first to comment

Marinating Jerkyso we love beef jerky.  and joe’s been obsessed with finding King B brand peppered beef sticks. It’s been months of searching and nothing has come up.  They are a Jack Links affiliate, so i’m assuming the King B brand was just bought and and the beefy goodness that he used to enjoy has now been disolved. So what’s a guy to do? Ask his girlfriend to pick up 5 lbs of round steak and we’ll just have to make it ourselves :)   We started the venture last night.  The beefy strips are safely tucked away, being marinated as i speak (or type if you’re gonna get that picky on me).  They’ll go in the oven tonight for the long drying process.
This is our first attempt at the whole jerky thing, so we’ll see how it goes.  Hopefully fabu – then we can take it to the desert with us next weekend :)

Lisa – Kelly LeBrock

Posted in thumba on August 8th, 2009 by admin – Be the first to comment

in ode to John Hughes…. Lisa from Weird Science (1985).

from wikipedia:

Gary Wallace (Anthony Michael Hall) is an average teenager and his best friend Wyatt Donnelly (Ilan Mitchell-Smith) is the son of rich parents and a computer genius. They are very unpopular in a Shermer, Illinois High School, and are introduced to the audience when they are pantsed in front of a gymnasium full of beautiful girls, heightening their unpopularity. Inspired by the film The Bride of Frankenstein, Gary comes up with the idea of using Wyatt’s computer to create the simulation of a woman to see how she would react in “real life sexual situations.” Wyatt reluctantly agrees, but his computer power only grants the simulation with the intellect of a fifth grader. Wyatt hacks into a government mainframe in order to obtain power for a more advanced version of the experiment; the boys upload photos of various super models to form the simulation’s body, Albert Einstein to form her intellect, and David Lee Roth to form her attitude, and then don bras on their heads in a faux ritual. The result is Lisa (Kelly LeBrock), a beautiful and intelligent super-being with inexplicable powers, who emerges from a red fog in their bathroom. She proves to be intelligent, sassy and essentially an ’80’s babe with a heart’ with whom Gary and Wyatt immediately develop crushes on

Lisa Simpson

Posted in thumba on August 7th, 2009 by admin – 1 Comment

I have to start my “ode’s to lisa’s” with the first lisa that comes to mind…Lisa Marie Simpson

from thesimpsons.com:

Lisa Simpson can’t wait for college. She’s only 8 and already reads at a 14th grade level, and has written a number of application-quality essays, one of which won her family a free trip to Washington, D.C. Her favorite activities include playing her saxophone, attending school and reading Non-Threatening Boys Magazine. A fan of Malibu Stacy, Lisa tried unsuccessfully to create her own talking doll, Lisa Lionheart. Unfortunately, no one wanted to buy a talking doll that was as judgmental as Lisa. Lisa wants everyone to know that she is a vegetarian and that if she could have one thing (besides world peace), it would be a pony.

thank you lisa simpson

what does “@” mean

Posted in Technology, thumba on August 7th, 2009 by admin – 1 Comment

so my phone (nokia 5310 xpressmusic) mysteriously turns itself off the other night. So naturally, i turn it back on. Now it has an “@” icon at the top of the screen where my notification icons normally rest…what could this possibly mean? I tried looking it up and it is such a difficult issue to find actual results for. so now, i’m stuck in a perpetual state of @

Shrimp Cocktail

Posted in Eating on August 7th, 2009 by admin – Be the first to comment

mmm…no. i forgot to take a picture. sorry. but yesterday joe made me some awesome shrimp cocktail – and by this I don’t mean, open a bag of cooked frozen shrimp and unscrew a jar of cocktail sauce, and say “have at it.” oh no. He cleaned 30 of these little babies and made the sauce from scratch. mmm…cocktail sauce. i love the spicy, horseradishy thick red goo…reminds me of the meal form of a bloody mary. And I love me a good, hearty bloody mary.

of course we didn’t eat that alone…served with a BLT, avocado/red pepper salad, and cucumber salad. so yummy!!! to boot – i didn’t find out till after we ate that he doesn’t even like shrimp cocktail…thanks joe!
